Dixie Dugan hieroglyphs

Here's yet another "mystery"!
I recently bought the original art to an old Dixie Dugan daily.
Click the thumbnail below to see it.

I've really tried to dechiper the hieroglyphic message, but without any luck. Guess I'm no Sherlock...

Anyone out there who wanna give it a try?
Maybe someone has a run of this 1932 Dixie Dugan adventure? I've got a few sets from the 30's and 40's but not this one.
I'd be happy to trade copies.

If you like these kind of puzzles I can recommend the movie Zodiac. I saw it a week ago and there's never a dull moment in the whole movie. Based on a true story. It's actually really creepy and weird. And filled with coded messages. :)

  1. Might just be a simple replacement chiffre with 26 different characters, A-Z. Is that the only image you've got?

  2. Btw, some of these, although not all, characters are based on real egyptian alphabetical signs. Check out:

  3. Actually, it fits with the info given in the balloons, as well:

-"This little circle of paper has the same hieroglyphics as the other one."

-"It must be the code to the message telling us where the jewels are hidden!!"

So, if you want to solve the chiffre, I guess you'd have to find the actual strip with the other paper.

  4. No two of these glyphs are the same. Ergo, either it isn't a simple substitution cypher or it is the actual codekey.

Well.. since it is 26 glyphs (for the alphabet's 26 letters) this mut be the codekey.

Yes! Ballon no. 3 in the strip says:
"It must be the code to that message telling us where the jewels are hidden!!"

So, they had a message. This is the code for that message. The message is in an earlier strip, this is just the key, so you can't solve it since you don't have it. :-)

P.S. A fair guess is that the glyph where the dog's nose is pointing stands for the letter "A". if you ever find the strip with the message... We'll find out!
