Teddy by Andréasson

Following yesterdays Terry – here's Teddy!

Teddy was a comic about a bear and his two friends Skalman and Lasse Skutt, a turtle and a rabbit. It was written and drawn by Rune Andréasson in the 50's and early 60's.
Teddy appeared in a few albums, in the comic book "Tuff och Tuss" and in his own comic book 1959-1960.
All of that is common knowledge for fans of Rune Andréasson here in Sweden.

But...
Very few knows that Teddy also had his own daily strip! I had never seen any examples until I ran into a stack of originals in the Andréasson archive.
I guess that the strip ran in just a few papers, so it's hard, if not impossible, to find any tearsheets of it at all. I have no start or end dates. Further research needs to be done.
Just to show you something here are five strips that I found among some papers and tearsheets that I have on loan. Enjoy!

So this Teddy series isn't the same that was published in the strip-sized magazines?

  2. No, the stories in the strip-sized comic book are different.

BTW: I'll soon be running the complete Teddy in space adventure that was left partly unpublished when the comic book folded in 1960. That one will appear in Bamses äventyr #23 in September!
So after almost 50 years readers will finally find out how the story ends.:)

    Ooww, nice...

(There were relatively many different strip-sized mags in Scandinavia in the 50's and 60's, btw. I think the format might have originated in Italy, and the creative team Essegesse's western comic Capitan Miki was imported and got very popular.)

There seems to be a plethora of Andreasson material that's very hard to find. Good to see it's being published anew. So, did Andreasson had an unpublished ending somewhere in his personal collection, or has it been created recently by yourself truly, or somebody else from the current Bamse staff?

  4. Yes, this is Andréassons own ending. He had finished issues 39-52 when "Teddy" was cancelled.
So there's more stuff waiting to see the light of day. :)

    Sounds swell.

By the way, if someone would like to learn more about EsseGesse, check out these links:

Hmmm, the first strip has number #5, and a -51 mark after the signature, and the last strip has number #464, which makes it look like there were rather many strips published for a (today) rather unknown feature.

I think Andreasson lived in Gothenburg at that time, so the strip could have been published in a local newspaper.

  7. Dear Joakim,
Is it allright if I use one of the Teddy strips on the Comiclopedia-page of Rune Andréasson (http://lambiek.net/artists/a/andreasson_rune.htm)?

    Best regards,
