Just arrived

Issue 3/10 (#495) of BAMSE just arrived at the office.
For the cover of this issue we have tried a different approach. By parents Bamse is usually seen as a nice carachter that avoids conflicts. But for this cover we decided to show him upset, angry and furious! (His daughter is missing in the lead story and he begins to accuse every crook in sight of kidnapping her. The story itself is a reprint from the 80's.)

Now, let's see if the parents will avoid to pick it up, or if the kids will be curious enough to why Bamse is so upset, that they'll convince the parents to buy it.

Hmm... maybe the parents would prefer a pink background and hearts instad? ;)

[Layout and rough sketch: Joakim Gunnarsson. Pencils: Lars Bällsten. Inks: Bernt Hanson. Coloring: Lise Jörgensen (Yours truly on the "cute version").]

  1. I like the dark red version much better then the cute version.
In the cute version the desk-crash don´t correspond with the nice face and the hearts.

  2. Yes, the second one was a version I did just for fun.
I placed it on the shelf here instead of the real one, just to see what the reactions would be. :)

Haha, the cute version's wonderful. Almost surreal. Krösus' happy mouth is a nice detail.

Mabe you should have changed "starkaste" (strongest) to "gladaste" (happiest) or something, too. Btw, it's a great illustration for the upcoming Valentine's Day.

  8. Aaron: Yes I do. I'm currently a project leader in the Bamse editorial group. Doing this and that. (I'm not allowed, I think, to call myself an editor, but that's what I do most of the time. Editing stuff.)
I pick reprints, do compilations, searches the archives, edits a few books, checks artwork, makes rough sketches, some inking, proof reading etc etc.
Trying to keep the production run smoothly. :)

In the afternoons and evenings I do freelance work.

  9. Wow! Sounds like a great job. And you get to work at Egmont, the company that handles two of my favorites, Uncles Scrooge and The Phantom!

    I'm so envious. :)

  11. Hehe.
    Roliga kommentarer.
