Well, my guess is that at least one of them is by Frank Frazetta... The first one must be fairly late since Moonbeam sports a rope around the waist instead of the proper belt she used in the earlier years. Regarding Capp's other assistants I am not that familiar with theis styles to be able to distinguish them from one another. :-(
Lubbers drew beautifully- but I like his work on Abner the best. Robin Malone & Long Sam were a bit of a disappointment for me. I do like the few Malone's where he drew in a more exaggerated, Capp-influenced style. I've been slowly scanning my '60's Abners, a few panels here: http://cartoonsexy.tumblr.com/
A few hundred RM dailies from 1969-70, when he drew in the more cartoony style, is on it's way across the pond to me. When I get them I'll post some of them here. :)

Yes, the second one is by Frank Frazetta (1954).
ReplyDeleteThe first image is from 1963.
Top looks like a Lubbers, my favorite Abner ghost.
ReplyDeleteIt sure is Lubbers, Shane!
ReplyDeleteFound a huge batch of Li'l Abner sunday proofs from the 40's, 50's and 60's. And among them a short Moonbeam story from 63.
This is such a great blog!
ReplyDeletegotta be Frazetta. Love your blog, though I wish you'd post more frequently.
ReplyDeleteMike and Tarit: Thanks, guys! :)
ReplyDeleteWatch out for the first Moonbeam sunday by Lubbers this weekend.
