Coming soon ...

More of this:

And while you are waiting, here's another Moonbeam:
Anyone who wants to take a stab at guessing who the Moonbeam artists above are?

PS. Just updated the previous post with a third (!) version of the final Robin Malone daily.

  1. Well, my guess is that at least one of them is by Frank Frazetta... The first one must be fairly late since Moonbeam sports a rope around the waist instead of the proper belt she used in the earlier years.
Regarding Capp's other assistants I am not that familiar with theis styles to be able to distinguish them from one another. :-(

  2. Yes, the second one is by Frank Frazetta (1954).

The first image is from 1963.

  3. Top looks like a Lubbers, my favorite Abner ghost.

  4. It sure is Lubbers, Shane!

Found a huge batch of Li'l Abner sunday proofs from the 40's, 50's and 60's. And among them a short Moonbeam story from 63.

  7. Lubbers drew beautifully- but I like his work on Abner the best. Robin Malone & Long Sam were a bit of a disappointment for me. I do like the few Malone's where he drew in a more exaggerated, Capp-influenced style. I've been slowly scanning my '60's Abners, a few panels here:

  8. A few hundred RM dailies from 1969-70, when he drew in the more cartoony style, is on it's way across the pond to me. When I get them I'll post some of them here. :)
