It's pretty cold here in Sweden at the moment.
Here's an old Emma and Sara page on that topic, that I did together with Emma Billbäck several years ago.
Enjoy! (Click to enlarge.)

Lily and Lisa
Everything's slowly getting back to normal after x-mas. I'm currently in Hedvig's apartment drawing and listening to Lily Allen's latest record:
It's not me, it's you.
BTW: She pretty much summed up my thoughts on illegal downloading in a Myspace post earlier this year. Just click HERE to read it. Aw, the stupid arguments some pirates have to justify their actions...
Onwards to something else: "Steamboat Willie" asked me if I or any of the readers of this blog knows anything about the comic "Lisa vill till filmen" ("Lisa wants to be in the movies") He offers a sample panel with a signature published in "Husmodern" #46 1934. Is it Swedish? European? American?
I have no idea, but maybe some of you knows more about this obscure comic?
And for no reason at all here's Kula Shaker's video to Mystical Machine Gun featuring some erotic golf and a cameo by the Green Hornet...
Watch out for the limited 2 CD edition of their Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts in early 2010.

Carl Barks - "Spring in Samarkand"
Why not kick off the new year before it's even started?
Let's declare Wednesdays "Barksdays" here on the Sekvenskonst blog! Every wednesday there will be some odd and unusual Carl Barks item showcased.
Now, let's begin with a nice oil painting from 1967. No ducks here.
The title is "Spring in Samarkand" and is numbered #26-67.
(And in case you wonder, I'm not the owner of this piece. But it was sold on eBay in 2007.)
And, well, what's a Barks post without a few quackers?
Here are two that I believe was made in the 1990's.
Happy Holidays to you all!
/Joakim.

Flintston
As a follow up to the 2007 blogpost about Popeye Grill here's Flintston Grill House! I'm sorry I don't have a better photo of the "Flintston" character. He actually reminds me of a character named Flintstone...
This grill can be found in Gothenburg at Backaplan.

Alma
It's morning here in Sweden.
I feel a cold coming and it's snowing outside. Just made some coffee and checked Cartoonbrew (as I do every day.)
They just posted a link to Rodrigo Blaas' Alma. Now, this short is definitely on my top ten list of the most beautiful animated shorts ever done!
If Coraline was the best animated feature of 2009 Alma sure is the best short. I love it and it's available in full to see for a limited time during the holidays. If you havn't seen it yet just sit back, relax and press play.
Enjoy!
Make sure to visit the Alma website for more info:

Miss Home Alone rides the rocking chair
This summer I spent a few days on the country side. Relaxing with my girlfriend in her familys cottage. Thats where I found this book. (Or maybe Hedvig showed it to me.)
Anyway, the book caught my eye and it turned out to be an amazing, surrealistic voyage through a childs imagination. I can highly reccomend everyone to read this childrens book. Not only for the text but for the illustrations also. "Fröken Ensam Hemma åker gungstol" ("Miss Home Alone rides the rocking chair".) has artwork by no one else than Swedish horror artist and fan favorite Hans Arnold.
I took a few snapshots that I hope you will enjoy.:)

Some Natwick stuff (and Barks too!)
Here are some scans I came across while checking my harddrive today.
I can't remember where I got them, but given that they are just showing parts of the documents I guess they are from an eBay listing.
If you like early Disney history and Grim Natwick it might be worth enlarging the images to read the stuff. (Maybe it's all published somewhere? In a book/magazine or on the web?)
And since we are getting close to Christmas, here's an X-mas card by Grim.
Wonderful, isn't it. :)
Another one can be found HERE.
PS. As a follow up to last weeks Barks post here's another early drawing. Dunno where I found this scan but probably on eBay several years ago.

Pogo and the Gleam
Now here's the answer to the question in the last post. What was shown was the back of a really nice piece of Floyd Gottfredson art from 1942.
Until very recently this belonged to my friend Germund, who had to sell it. It's Gottfredson at his very best with strong poses Mickey Mouse and the Gleam himself. Make sure you click on the image to see it in large format.
At the same time as I had the Gottfredson strip in my apartment, I also had several other pieces from Germunds collection "on loan". Including this Pogo daily from 1969. This shows that Walt Kelly was one of those artists that did maintain a very high standard through his whole career. Enjoy!

Original Frank Robbins artwork
The three original Frank Robbins "Scorchy Smith" dailies that I've mentioned earlier has arrived. Large clean strips that looks like they were drawn yesterday. Quite impressive stuff. The "pools of black" he used makes the strips stand out, even when viewed from a distance.
Well, I just have to share a few snapshots of these gems with you. I hope you like them. :)
Thanks to Arnaud Wirschell I now know that 1-22 and 12-15 are from 1942 and
2-26 is from 1943.
Coming up next:
What's hiding on the other side of this glue stained paper??? :)

Worst Disney cover ever?
Here's my nomination to the worst Disney cover ever. Published in 1970 in Sweden, this was sold on "Barnens dag" (The kids day) for two crowns. I've never seen a copy, until I got this one a few days ago. I paid four crowns for it, so the seller made a good investment when he bought this book. Now he got 200% of what he paid for it. If he had bought 250.000 copies in 1970 he'd be a millionare today...
Hmmm... Sounds like a bad business pitch in the Dragons Nest.
Now over to something completely different. The first Gus and Gussie collection has reached the Dummy state. :)
It contains strips from January to February 1928.
Naturally it still needs cover pages.
Now back to work on the next.

Barks cartoons
It's Wednesday evening and time for some more Carl Barks stuff. Even though he will always be remembered for his Duck comics there was a time when he tried to break into the cartoon market.
Here we find a few samples done at the time that he was working in Disney's Burbank studio during the war.
Eh, you want some ducks too? Quack to you!
