Just to get your brain cells working: Name the strip and the cartoonist behind this drawing.

The name of the strip should not be too hard to figure out. But the cartoonists name might be tricky.

Cartoonist photos

It's been a long time since I posted any cartoonist photos here on the blog. So for those of you who wants to see pics of some great comic artists from the past I hope you enjoy this post.

First we have Al Capp in a shot from Aug. 5, 1953:

Otto Soglow:

And then Ottos (not so little) Little King together with Jimmy Durante Aug 30, 1934.

Jimmy Swinnerton 1932:

Hal Foster at his drawingboard Feb 15, 1962:

And to end this post: Anyone who can name all four (or just one) of these cartoonist? A tough one, I know. Good luck! :)

PS. Myself I'm currently trying to dechiper Floyd Gottfredsons Mark O'Polo scripts. I just wish his handwriting was easier to understand...

Mystery cartoonist

This photo was recently sold on eBay with the description:
"a very nice vintage photo showing a cartoonist with pen and ink on his desk. Lots of familiar characters adorn the walls like Mickey, Minny, Donald Duck etc. There is also a photo of Walt Disney on the wall. I was told the cartoonist was Carl Barks, but I have been unable to find a photo of him in his youth to determine if that is true or not. Sold as is. EX condition. 8 x 10. Original photo."

Now, this obviously isn't Carl Barks and I guess it's from the mid/late 40's judging by the art in the background. (I can identify two pieces of Barney Google in army clothes.) So, who is this. A young cartoonist that never made it but was able to collect a nice wall of originals and prints. Or some one familar in the early stages of his career?

Anyone out there who knows?

Two close ups for those of you who wants to give a shot at trying to identify the art on the wall...

Name that cartoonist! pt. II

Yup! It's time for another installment of Name that Cartoonist!
This time it's a well known guy that was a superstar in the 20's and the 30's. Here he's seen with Rudy Vallee to the left and his wife in the middle. Buuuut... who is he?
Anyone who dares to guess?
Answer later this week, along with a rare sample of his art or two.

And just to make things really easy: Here's of the man that took over "Mr. X"s strip in the 40's .

Name that cartoonist!

Time to play "Name that cartoonist"! :)
Since there now are over 700 different people visiting this blog every month I thougth I should put you all to a test. I know that there are plenty of knowledge about comics among you out there, but...
do you know what the cartoonists behind the stories and art from the classic era of comics looked like?

Let's start with one really easy and another wich might be a little harder.
The first is dated 1/7/25 and taken at Palm Beach. The second is dated 2/12/25 and taken at Madison Square Garden.
Any guesses?
