Artists and Models promo photo

Ever heard about the movie "Artists and models"?
It was released in 1937 and features some of the great illustrators of that time: Russell Patterson, Rube Goldberg, John LaGatta etc.
Checked my files and I found a promotional photo from that movie.
It features Peter Arno, Jack Benny (not an illustrator of course...) and McClelland Barclay, and is dated June 14, 1937. Enjoy!


While not beeing available on DVD yet TCM will show this in the US on February 23. And they have posted a few clips online! Including this one where we see Patterson and other artists drawing.

Gotto date this one!

[Edit: Germund solved it himself, after I pointed out that there was a Donald Duck strip on the comics page. "Oh, that's the one with the egg!" I heard him saying... That would date it to ca August 18, 1945. Case closed.]

My friend Germund has this photo of comic strip artist Ray Gotto in his collection.

Now he's wondering wich date it was taken.
Impossible to know, you say? Well, if you look closely you'll see hes looking at the comics page.

Any hardcore comic strip fans out there who can identify wich year and date this photo was taken?

Gottfredson photos

Gunnar Andreassen sent me these photos he found on flickr a while ago.

Now, besides Gottfredson who are the other two? Anyone who knows?
And does anyone have photos from inside the Comic Strip dept building?

Young, Dora and Brummelisa

Got this one from the printer today!
It's the first childrens book I've written! :)
Well, the characters aren't mine. Bamse is the most well known comic book character for children 5-8 years old here in Sweden and everything is owned by the Andréasson family. And the script is based on a story I plotted and Mårten Melin scripted for the comic book in 2004. The artwork is by Lars Bällsten and Ann Härdfäldt. The cover has a few coloring mistakes and the spine has a slight misprint. But still...
It's a nice little hardcover book. :)
And as you've already guessed by seeing the cover it's a sugar sweet love story. ;)

Ahhh... the life of a cartoonist is a life in leisure. At least if you are to believe old press photos. Here we see Chic Young sketching Betty Stark and Doris Pert in Miami Beach 1937.

Jungle Love

King Kong's little brother seems to be getting a trifle too affectionate. In the picture are the famed cartoonist Chic Young, who draws "Blondie", Lyman Young, who conducts "Tim Tyler" to the ends of the earth and Otto Soglow, author of "The Ambassador" goings-on. The scene is "Through the Lost River" at the World's Fair.

This photo and artwork appeared in "The Burroughs Bulletin" #15 in 1964 along with a text written by Bob about his career.
