Young girls

Ahhh... the life of a cartoonist is a life in leisure. At least if you are to believe old press photos. Here we see Chic Young sketching Betty Stark and Doris Pert in Miami Beach 1937.

Edit Aug 2015: Updated this post with the text from the back of the photo.

I just forwarded this blog to John Marshall, Blondie's most recent artist. Thought he'd get a kick out of it.

My mother was Doris Pert, the woman on the right, and she was 18 when this picture was taken. I doubt she would think that she and Betty were young girls!
Would love to know what happened to the sketch!
Where did you find this photo? My mother had a copy of it in her scrap book.
Thanks,
Carol

Carol: Nice to hear from you! This photo was sold on eBay and came from a newspaper archive. So I guess this was printed in the papers back then. Unfortunately I don't own it, but since the seller uploaded a sharp photo of it I saved it on my hard drive.
I'd love to see the sketch too. Maybe Betty got it?

PS. Carol: I updated this post with an image of the back of the photo, so that you can read the full press text.
