Graff used it in the strip as a part of the plot. I guess this was a smart way to market a song. Or not. I dunno how many copies it sold.

The cartoonist looks as though he spent a lot of time studying Milt Caniff.
I wonder why no one reissues all these old adventure comics, they're much more worth reading than the ones in the newspapers today.
You bet he was inspired by Caniff. :)
Mel Graff started out at AP in the mid thirties when both Caniff and Noel Sickles worked there.
